6 April 2026 | Menara JKR, Kuala Lumpur
The Association of Construction Project Managers Malaysia (ACPM) paid a courtesy visit to YB Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan, Deputy Minister of Works Malaysia, on 6 April 2026.
The engagement provided an important platform for ACPM to strengthen its relationship with the Ministry of Works Malaysia (KKR) and to exchange views on construction project delivery, professional competency and the future development of the construction project management profession in Malaysia.

Strengthening ACPM–KKR Collaboration
During the session, ACPM shared its role and contributions as a professional body representing construction project managers in Malaysia, including its involvement in the development of construction project management competency standards, training, certification and professional development.
ACPM also expressed its readiness to work more closely with KKR in areas such as capacity building, professional advisory and initiatives to enhance project delivery practices.
Key Industry Issues Discussed
The engagement provided an opportunity for ACPM to share professional perspectives on several issues affecting Malaysia’s construction industry, including:
project governance and competency;
project delays and contractor capability;
monitoring and control of project performance;
Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2024;
technology and modern construction methodologies; and
the importance of competent and certified construction project managers.
The discussion reinforced the importance of strengthening project management competency, accountability and effective project delivery across the industry.
Advancing the Board of Project Managers Malaysia
A key highlight of the engagement was ACPM’s proposal for the establishment of a Board of Project Managers Malaysia through an Act of Parliament.
ACPM highlighted the current professional governance gap whereby the role and title of “Project Manager” are not formally regulated, despite the significant responsibility carried by project managers in integrating time, cost, quality, resources and stakeholder requirements throughout project delivery.
The proposed Board is envisioned to strengthen professional standards, competency, accountability, ethics and governance, while providing clearer professional pathways and contributing towards improved project delivery outcomes.
ACPM also reiterated that the proposed Board would complement existing construction professions rather than replace them, while strengthening coordination across the industry.
A Positive Step Forward
ACPM greatly appreciates the positive engagement and support expressed by YB Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan towards the proposal for the establishment of the Board of Project Managers Malaysia.
The proposal was recognised as being aligned with the need to strengthen project monitoring and delivery, competency and accountability within the construction industry, with the initiative and ACPM’s appeal to be further discussed within KKR.
The courtesy visit marks another important step in strengthening ACPM’s engagement with Government and advancing the construction project management profession in Malaysia.
ACPM looks forward to continued collaboration with the Ministry of Works Malaysia and industry stakeholders towards better project delivery and a stronger, more productive Malaysian construction industry.
