ACPM Workshop Series: ESG & GHG Introduction for Project Managers
From ESG Fundamentals to Site-Level Carbon Tracking
The ACPM Workshop Series for 2026 officially kicked off on a strong note with the “ESG & GHG Introduction for Project Managers” workshop, bringing together 30 project management professionals for a full-day, highly engaging learning experience.
Designed specifically for project managers with zero to intermediate ESG knowledge, the workshop guided participants from foundational concepts through to practical, site-level application. The sessions combined structured learning with interactive discussions and live system demonstrations, ensuring participants could clearly see how ESG and GHG requirements translate into real project controls.
Strong Leadership Opening & Closing
The workshop opened with welcoming remarks by PMr Sr Dr Wan Maimun Wan Abdullah, President of ACPM, who highlighted the growing responsibility of project managers in delivering ESG outcomes and reaffirmed ACPM’s commitment to capacity building in this space.
The programme concluded with closing remarks by PMr Ruslan Affendy Arshad, Deputy President of ACPM, who emphasised the importance of moving beyond awareness towards consistent implementation on live projects.
Technical Depth Meets Practical Application
The technical foundation of the workshop was delivered by Dr. Shanmuga Kittappa, who conducted Session 1 through Session 3, covering:
ESG fundamentals and their relevance to construction projects
The relationship between ESG, SDGs, and greenhouse gas emissions
GHG Protocol basics, scopes, and carbon calculation principles
Participants were then introduced to Malaysia’s green certification landscape by Dr. Siti Norbaizura, who walked through the key frameworks available locally and explained how project teams can align their site practices with certification requirements.
The workshop concluded with a live ESG tracking software demonstration led by Edwin Jesu Dass, showing participants how project-level data can be translated into ESG scores, carbon metrics, and framework-aligned outputs in a practical and PM-friendly manner.
Tangible Takeaways for Participants
To ensure continuity beyond the classroom, all participants received a 14-day free trial to the ESG tracking software demonstrated during the session. This allowed them to immediately begin experimenting with ESG logging, scoring, and reporting on their own projects.
The overall response from participants was highly positive, with many highlighting the clarity of delivery, relevance to real construction workflows, and the value of seeing ESG concepts applied through live demonstrations rather than theory alone.
A Strong Start for 2026
This workshop successfully marked the first ACPM Workshop Series of the year, setting a clear direction for future programmes that prioritise practical skills, real-world relevance, and industry-ready tools.
ACPM looks forward to continuing this momentum with upcoming workshops designed to further equip project managers to lead confidently in an increasingly ESG-driven construction landscape.
