Message from our President
PMr. Sr. Dr. Wan Maimun Wan Abdullah
President, Association of Construction Project Managers Malaysia (ACPM)
As the construction industry continues to evolve, the role of the Construction Project Manager has never been more critical. Today, project managers are no longer responsible only for time, cost, quality, and stakeholders appreciation— they are increasingly expected to lead projects that are sustainable, responsible, and resilient in the face of environmental, social, and governance challenges.
It is with this understanding that the Association of Construction Project Managers (ACPM) Malaysia remains committed to strengthen the professional relevance, leadership capacity, and future readiness of our members that would ensure not only for the project but public and national interests.
One of ACPM’s key priorities this year is to move beyond awareness and into practical capacity and capability building. Initiatives such as the ACPM Workshop Series, ACPM Publication Calendar, and programs on professional best practice and competence, reflect our intention to provide members with timely knowledge, structured learning, and applied insights that respond directly to industry needs. These initiatives and programs also reinforce ACPM’s role as a professional body that not only represents the profession, but actively shapes its direction.
The increasing importance of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations in construction is a clear example of this shift. ESG is no longer confined to corporate reports or policy statements — it is delivered on construction sites through daily project decisions involving materials, methods, safety practices, energy use, waste management, and stakeholder engagement. This places Construction Project Managers at the centre of ESG outcomes, making ESG competence an essential professional capability rather than an optional skill.
ACPM believes that the profession must take a proactive role in this transition. Project managers should be equipped not only to understand ESG frameworks and carbon requirements, but also to apply them confidently at project level. At the same time, we recognise that this transition cannot rely on manual processes alone. Digital and AI-enabled tools will play an increasingly important role in enabling accurate data capture, credible reporting, and informed decision-making.
As such, ACPM supports initiatives that demonstrate how technology can be used responsibly to simplify ESG implementation and strengthen project governance across the construction lifecycle.
Looking ahead, ACPM will continue to collaborate with industry stakeholders, researchers, and practitioners to ensure that our members remain relevant, respected, and well-prepared for the future of construction. Our commitment is to build a profession that leads with competence, integrity, and impact — for the benefit of the industry, society, and the built environment.
I would like to thank all members, partners, and contributors for their continued support of ACPM. Together, we will continue to advance the role of the Construction Project Manager and uphold the standards of our profession.
Warm regards,
PMr. Sr. Dr. Wan Maimun Wan Abdullah
President
Association of Construction Project Managers Malaysia (ACPM)
